Following The Sleepy Lagoon Case and the subsequent Zoot Suit Riots allowed Luis Valdez to accurately portray the hardships and prejudice that the Chicano community had to endure during this time. With out Valdez the Chicano theater would not be the same. Valdez is one of the pioneers that made Chicano theater what it is today. Without plays like Zoot Suit, the prejudice toward the Chicano community would not be seen by those outside that community. Valdez showed that what was going on during that time was unfair and not right. Even when evaluating characters like El Pachuco, it is clearly seen that when he is stripped of his zoot suit, he is being stripped of his culture and heritage. Plays like Zoot Suit really brought attention to the importance of the prejudice toward the Chicano community and Chicano theater.
